TAYLOR COUNTY—Back-to-school time will be here before you know it, and one community organization has set their sights on making sure students have essential items.

The Planned Approach To Community Health (PATCH) Coalition of Taylor County has been hard at work securing and organizing back-to-school hygiene kits.

The kits will ensure that area youths are equipped with items that will help them face their day in a confident manner.

The packs will consist of essential hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, deodorant, lip balm, combs, nail clippers, q-tips, tissues and bath poufs.

PATCH is also hoping to add nail files, hand sanitizers, floss packs, hairbrushes and bars of soap.

The hygiene packs will be presented to the first 100 families to visit the groups location during the August First Fridays celebration.

“We will be giving out the kits to school-aged children from 4:00-8:00 p.m., on Friday, August 5, on a first-come, first-serve basis,” revealed PATCH Coalition President Alicia Lyons.

The giveaway will be taking place in conjunction with the Taylor County Cooperative Parrish’s backpack giveaway.

“Our Project Period for Taylor County will also have free menstrual products available upon request,” Lyons disclosed.

Through that initiative, females can receive packs that include items such as regular flow tampons, heavy flow tampons, pads, individual packs of Pamprin or Midol, hand sanitizer, disposable wipes and biodegradable disposable bags, as well as a reusable menstrual cup.

The goal of the PATCH Coalition of Taylor County is to provide support that will help to improve the health and well-being of residents. They do this through education and special projects like Project Period and their Blessing Box Hygiene Project.

The non-profit relies on project-based grants and the generosity of community members to help them meet the needs of the residents.

Donations of personal hygiene products are always gladly accepted to help replenish the ten blessing boxes they supply each month.

“We appreciate all of the continued support that Taylor County has shown to us and those who benefit from our services,” voiced Lyons.
